Nucleus 5 – Thinner. Smaller. Stylish.

n5_processor

Good news!  I just received a call from Alexander’s Audiologist reporting that Cochlear’s newest version of the cochlear implant was just approved by the FDA and Alexander will be activated with the Nucleus 5 in October.  It has new bells and whistles, but most of all it is thinner than the previous versions.  They have designed the batteries to lay vertically instead of horizontally and it only requires 2 disposable batteries instead of 3 batteries.  I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

I am bummed that he will not have the new internal piece since he had surgery 2 weeks ago.  Luckily the Freedom is compatible with the Nucleus 5.  Although the only difference between their internal pieces is the new one is thinner.  It would have made a little difference, but what is done is done.

Here’s to the Nucleus 5!

you don't know me, but my daughter has bilaterals as well. we got what we got too, only activated 1 mo in the 2nd side, and 5 mos on the first side. she is 22 mos.

got to "try on" the nuc 5 the other day and it is quite sleek. didn't know the internal was different. couldn't find much online...was curious what has changed.

will find out eventually, but if you have any thoughts would love to hear it.
